Horror Editorial Review
**** "The Case of the Bloody Iris" emerges as a captivating giallo thriller that combines stylistic cinematography, a fittingly eerie soundtrack, and a narrative that engages and surprises its audience. The film kicks off with a shocking murder in a crowded elevator, which sets the tone for a gripping tale steeped in mystery and violence typical of the genre. Viewers follow the troubled journey of Jennifer, accurately portrayed by Edwige Fenech, as she navigates a web of terror, obsession, and intrigue involving a stalker from her past and a masked killer. The performances elevate the film, particularly Fenech’s, who impresses with her striking presence and dynamic range as she encounters both physical threats and emotional turmoil. Meanwhile, George Hilton's characterization of Andrea Barto, a man filled with secrets, adds layers of complexity to the narrative. The supporting cast, including comedic relief through the character of Commissioner Enci’s sidekick, provides a balanced blend of horror and humor. Visual storytelling shines through atmospheric scenes, including an unforgettable sequence at a graveyard that enhances the film's aesthetic. The giallo formula of introducing numerous suspects and red herrings keeps the audience guessing, making the resolution all the more satisfying. With elements of suspense, illicit romance, and a critique of societal norms regarding power and sexuality, the film is a multifaceted offering that does justice to the genre. In conclusion, "The Case of the Bloody Iris" stands out not just for its traditional giallo components, but also for its sharp commentary on relationships and trust. Fans of the genre and mystery aficionados will find this a compelling watch, highlighting both the artistry of 70s Italian cinema and the darker recesses of human desire. **
