Gerçekten büyük tehlikeler içinde kıstırılmış insanların romanı bu.” İlk yayımlandığı günden bu yana Türk okuru tarafından ilgiyle karşılanan Kurt Kanunu, Türk tarihinin ve siyasetinin en önemli kırılma anlarından biri olan 1926 İzmir Suikastı günlerine uzanır. Okur, roman boyunca suikast girişiminin safahatına, Türk siyasetinin ve devlet adamlarının içine düştüğü drama tanıklık ederken, yakın tarihimizin bu kırılma anında tartışılan hususları; millî zengin yaratma girişimlerini, İttihatçıların tasfiyesini, devlet-toplum ilişkilerini, iktidarın doğasını ve insanın sorumluluğu konusunu Kemal Tahir’in etkileyici üslubu ve usta anlatıcılığı eşliğinde takip eder. Kurt Kanunu’nun bu eleştirel baskısı hazırlanırken romanın 1967-1968 tarihli Ulus gazetesi tefrikası, Bilgi Yayınları tarafından yapılan 1969 tarihli ilk ve 1972 tarihli ikinci baskıları karşılaştırıldı. Nüsha farklılıklarını gösteren ayrıntılı bir liste hazırlandı. Okurun metinle ilişkisini daha derinlikli bir kavrayışa taşıma anlamında metni açan, genişleten, romanın önemini ve yazılış koşullarını ortaya koyan bir dizi çalışma yürütüldü: Yazarın hayatını, yaşadığı dönemin edebî, tarihî-siyasi ve düşünsel bağlamını sunan zengin bir kronoloji çalışmasının yanında, yazarın arşivinden yazılı ve görsel belgelere, Kurt Kanunu’nun yayın serüvenini gösterecek ve okurun romana bugünden bakmasını sağlayacak yazılara da yer verildi.
